Frank Maggio of Centereach was driving a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer northbound on Nicolls Road, north of Sunrise Highway in Holbrook when he reportedly lost control of the car while changing lanes at approximately 8:40 p.m. Thursday, July 25, according to police. according to Suffolk County Police.

The Mitsubishi overturned and crossed the center median where it was hit by a southbound 2007 Nissan Murano, said police.

Maggio was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

The driver of the Nissan, Amanda Recchia, 24, of Patchogue and her passenger, Dan Fey, 25, of Miller Place, were taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
